Damian Harper's Tyranid Horde won the February League of Gentlemen Competition. After this great feat, we decided to ask him "what posessed you to create an army of bio-enhanced killing machines?
Why did you choose to create a Tyranid Army for Warhammer 40K?
I got the Tyranids because of the "Horde" factor that I had enjoyed for over a decade with my Skaven in Fantasy (WHFB). They are also not like any other army out there. My mates played both systems and I was getting sick of just beating them in Fantasy
Why did you choose the colour scheme you did for your army?
The colour scheme that I went with was a dark alien skin & armour with bright bio-morphs and weapons. I imagine the poor old Space Marines sitting in thier camp of a night time, not only looking out and seeing these bright eyes but also seeing these bright flashes of small and big weird shapes coming ever closer
What are your favourite models for modelling and painting?
The Venom-Tyrant and the Barbifex ( not many people laughed at his name after he shot at them). I enjoyed kitting out the Tyrant with 2 Venom Cannons, extended carapace pieces from the gaunt sprues, flesh hooks, implant attacks (which were cut down flesh hooks), bio-plasma, enhanced senses (from a devourer), & toxin sacks.
The Barbifex was a pain in the you know what to do. The 2 Barbed Stranglers as the arms, with the sacks for the gun, are not long enough. I had to cut and join the arms together twice for the effect of him shooting at you. The extended carapace off of the monsterous sprue, 2 adrenal glands, same enhanced senses as the Tyrant, toxin sacks, flesh hooks all were a piece of cake afterwards
Also I like the way the Gargoyle & Ravener unit's look.
What plan's do you have for the future of your army?
As we all know the 'Nids just got the new codex so the sky is the limit. I already had a winged Tyrant and 3 winged warriors that I did not take in the League of Gentlemen competition, but I might use the flying army very soon as they can now enter terrain at last!
Ominous and forboding footnote from Damian...
People thought that my army was a pain to play before. I have to say that was only the entree, the main pain is on it's way.....
