Wrap up by Mark Wilson, Tournament Organiser.
After some confused moments, with adjustments being made to cover for a last minute scratching, the second Area 52 Flames of War tournament rumbled to a delayed start.

In round one I played Jim Gandy, Attacking his Bersaglieri with the Death or Glory armour squadron. In spite of a positive looking start to the battle my swiftly knocked out. Steve Jendrich's Grenadierkompanie faced Matt and Keith's American Rifle Company holding them back for a clear win. Mariusz' Free Poles rolled out against Chris' Strelkovy Battalion, taking some punishment from the big guns. Steve Page's Strelkovy faced the horribly outnumbered Grenadiers and Heavy armour of Ed Clay's Germans, capturing both tanks of the Tiger platoon in a highly amusing development.

For round two's Breakthrough mission Matt and Keith faced Ed's Grenadiers, setting up in a comfortable enfilade position watching the Tigers roll by before swiftly dealing with most of the infantry. Jim's Italians struggled valiantly against the numberless hordes of Chris' Russians, stoically enduring a swift counterattack and fighting back with all they could muster. Steve faced Steve in possibly the best looking battle of the day, with two massed infantry forces facing off along a wide front. Mariusz' Poles with their modern American built tanks simply outclassed my British armour bringing a swift win in an allied training exercise.

I decided on a variant Free for All mission to close out the day, the Dawn Attack. Jim's Italians pushed hard against the Poles, claiming victory at a heavy cost. Steve Page faced Matt and Keith's Americans in a battle that seemed to swing back and forth before running out of time with no clear victor. Ed's Tigers and Ferdinand rolled forward to deal with my forces only to be outmanoeuvred by the gallant British armour. Steve Jendrich and Chris fought each other to a standstill.

Special thanks go to Steve Page and Jim for providing extra scenery for the day. Thanks also to Jim Gandy for these photographs.
